Cambodia Set to Host Inaugural Open Para Bowling Championships in 2024

Phnom Penh, March 27, 2024 - Cambodia is gearing up to host the first-ever Cambodia Open Para Bowling Championships from June 21 to 27, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the country’s sporting events calendar.

The competition, set to unfold at the Probowl Sports Academy within Khalandale Mall in Phnom Penh, is expected to draw around 100 para-athletes from across the globe, including South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, and Singapore.

Leon Lim, Vice President of the Cambodia Bowling Federation and a coach, shared with AKP that 20 Cambodian para-athletes are currently undergoing rigorous training in preparation for the championships. From this group, ten outstanding athletes—comprising an equal number of men and women—will be chosen to represent Cambodia.

The championship is designed not only as a competitive platform but also as an opportunity for para-athletes to exchange experiences and hone their skills. The event is strategically positioned to bolster the preparation of Cambodian athletes for future international competitions, including the 33rd SEA Games and the 13th ASEAN Para Games set to take place in Thailand in 2025.

Lim expressed a strong commitment to training the Cambodian team, aiming for medal-winning performances that will make the nation proud.

This year’s Cambodia Open Para Bowling Championships will be the country's first venture into hosting such an event, setting the stage for the 1st Cambodia International Open 2024, planned for July. The move underscores Cambodia’s expanding role in the international sports arena, particularly in promoting inclusivity and excellence in para-sports.
